Bank of Ghana hospital will be open to the general public – BoG

The Bank of Ghana has debunked claims made by the Health Minister, Kwaku Agyeman Manu, that the bank’s hospital will be used by only some high profiles and the staff of the central bank who contracts the coronavirus disease.

Speaking to the press in Accra earlier today (Wednesday), the Health Minister said management of the Bank of Ghana has come to an agreement with his ministry that the hospital, which, hitherto, has remained unopened ever since it was completed, will now be opened to support other health facilities in the Greater Accra region as part of the fight against the pandemic, but will only treat the bank’s staff and what he calls “VIPs”.

But in a sharp rebuttal, Secretary of the Bank of Ghana, Ms. Sandra Thompson, in a press release, said even though it is true that the Health Ministry and the bank have agreed to use part of the facility for the COVID-19 fight, it will be available for the general public.

“The bank confirms that it has been in discussions with the Ministry of Health to agree on an arrangement to avail parts of the facility to assist in the treatment of severe and critical cases of COVID-19. This arrangement will be available for the benefit of the general public.

The bank wishes to assure the public of its support of the national effort towards the management of the COVID-19 pandemic,” the statement said.
